Customers Mistake Hair Styling Products For Sex Toys In Brand Horror Story

Hair company Mark Hill’s hair straighteners and curlers have been mistaken for sex toys in online reviews – not exactly brand goals.

You’d assume it’s basic marketing and branding 101 to make sure your product is recognisable and not easily mistaken for something else but Mark Hill’s hair grooming products have found themselves being mistaken for something else entirely.

Metro has reported that buyers have commented about their confusion, one wrote: “After a couple of near accidents and completely new sensations, I found it’s pretty good at doing my hair as well! Please don’t make the same mistakes as me.”

Another shared: “My very conservative mother found it in my bathroom and now isn’t speaking to me because she thought it was something else.

“I’m sure you can figure out what. So, I’m taking recommendations for great ways to style my hair with this, and ways to convince my mum that it isn’t what she thinks it is.”

In response, the brand took to Instagram to clear up the rumours in a clever and fun video.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time someone has thought Hill’s hair products look like sex toys! Way back in 2016 there was this iconic tweet.

Obviously quite objectively funny but perhaps a lesson in branding and marketing for all of us? Follow the golden rule and make sure none of your products could be mistaken for dildos.

Still, in fairness to Mark Hill, all hair straightners look a little like sex toys if you squint.
