For most of us, 2020’s been about as riveting as a death of a pet.
So, it’s wonderful to see US fast food chain Cafe Rio trying to put a positive spin on things in a wonderfully funny new TVC promoting the return of carne asada to its menu. Carne asada is a sort of barbecued Mexican steak dish, apparently.
The ad stars actor and comedian Regan Burns (How I Met Your Mother, Supernatural) alongside his actual wife and two kids and was filmed entirely in the family’s Los Angeles home in an eight-hour take that also included several outtake clips which you can check out on YouTube.
The work of creative agency Funworks, the idea behind the ad came from a virtual workshop the agency held with Cafe Rio execs and some of the restaurant’s customers.
