Constellation Brands, the parent company of Corona, has hit back at a survey that claimed 38 per cent of Americans would not purchase the beer due to coronavirus fears.
The study, released by independent PR company 5W Public Relations, spoke to 737 US residents about their feelings towards the beer.
As well as revealing 38 per cent of people would not drink the beer “under any circumstance”, the research also found 16 per cent of beer-drinking Americans were confused about whether Corona beer is related to the coronavirus.
Responding to the research, Constellation CEO and president Bill Newlands [feature image] said the company’s recent performance was not being accurately reflected.
“It’s extremely unfortunate that recent misinformation about the impact of this virus on our business has been circulating in traditional and social media without further investigation or validation,” said Newlands in a statement.
“These claims simply do not reflect our business performance and consumer sentiment, which includes feedback from our distributor and retailer partners across the country.”
Newlands’ comments come after Corona’s Belgian-based brewer Brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) reported it will take a $260 million hit from the coronavirus outbreak.
