Nine Entertainment Co, Network Ten and Seven West Media netted a combined $465 million in advertising revenue in the second quarter of 2020, marking a 33 per cent dip from the year prior.
The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that unaudited internal commercial revenue data shows the steep decline.
It is compared to an eight per cent fall in commercial television revenue for the first quarter of the year.
Q2, of course, coincided with the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent restrictions which saw major sporting codes around the country paused.
Seven West Media, which was unable to broadcast the AFL for the majority of the quarter, was the hardest hit, with revenue down 38 per cent.
The data shows the market did show some signs of revival in June as lockdown measures were lifted and consumer confidence started to return.
There was a 29 per cent fall in revenue for June – a 29 per cent fall.
Nine booked about $74 million in advertising for June, Seven did $72 million and Ten made $49 million.
