Usually movie sequels are announced before the credits on the first film have even rolled, but not the sequel to the 2008 found-footage monster horror film Cloverfield– not only did nobody know the sequel was happening, but the film is already finished and ready to go.
The film was titled The Cellar and Valencia to confuse J.J Abrams (the man behind Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Star Trek and Lost) superfans.
“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield,” Abrams said in a statement to Collider via Paramount Pictures. “The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”
10 Cloverfield Lane stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr. According to IMDB the film is about: “After a car accident, a young woman awakens in an underground cellar, where most of the action takes place. She fears she has been abducted by a survivalist, who tells her he saved her life and that a chemical attack has left the outside world uninhabitable. Uncertain what to believe, she decides she must escape, whatever dangers she may face outside.”
