Clothing Brand Apologises & Fires Designer For T-Shirt With Infamous Detention Centre Photo

A US clothing company has been forced to take swift action after it released a T-shirt featuring an image of a former youth detention centre detainee from Australia.

KNYEW’s T-shirt copped a swathe of criticism on social media for its ‘Detention Tee’, which featured the controversial and much-publicised image of former Don Dale youth detention centre detainee Dylan Voller, and was emblazoned with the words “youth detention” and “faded youth”.

The image of Voller came to public attention in 2016 over his treatment in youth detention, which led to a Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory.

Some of the words used to describe the T-shirt were “sick”, “vile” and “disgraceful”, forcing KNYEW to issue an apology statement yesterday.

The statement came after KNYEW responded to a number of outraged people on social media, disclosing that it had fired the designer responsible for the t-shirt.
