Australia’s leading and fastest-growing mobile-payment and deals app across bars, pubs and restaurants, Clipp.co has launched cashless bill splitting to help Aussies get even with cheapskate friends.

Bill splitting has been the most requested feature among Clipp’s 55,000 users. In addition, a new survey of 2,024 Australians by Clipp revealed a whopping 43 per cent of respondents admitted they have been left to pay the full bill when dining out. Clipp has solved the problem by allowing users to split the bill with friends in less than 15 seconds – without cash, credit card or ID – across more than 600 venues Australia-wide.

Greg Taylor, Clipp co-founder said: “We know from our own and our customers’ experiences that this is one of the biggest headaches when the bill arrives. We’ve experienced at least one person who will order additional or more expensive dishes, or top shelf spirits, and disappear when the bill arrives. Already, the app only ever charges for what users actually spend, and now our users can ensure their friends will help them foot the bill.”

Clipp users who open an account can now opt to invite friends to join via the app. Once their dining companions have joined the tab, Clipp automatically takes care of the payment process and divides the total bill by the number of people on the tab. Users can opt to override this and extend their contribution should they feel the need to.

How to use the bill splitting feature on Clipp:

To split the bill, tap on the ‘Split’ button inside your tab.  It will share your name and profile picture to anyone searching for an account to join at the venue for the next 60 seconds.  After your friends have selected the venue, they simply need to tap ‘Join Tab’ and select the tab they want to join.  Then the request will be sent to the user for them to accept.

Clipp users pay in one step on their phone – via debit card, credit card or PayPal, with all transactions made through Clipp secured by the PayPal gateway.  The app is compatible across 16 of the major hospitality POS systems throughout Australia, with four additional systems to be added by early 2016.

The free app can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.
