Rumours are swirling that Channel 10 and Paramount Plus will be bidding to secure the broadcast rights for The AFL from 2025.

Currently, The AFL’s home is on Seven and Foxtel and it delivers consistently strong numbers for the network.

Also, let’s not forget that in 2021 Seven announced its AFL partners and proudly shared a record number of brands had got involved. So, let’s keep in mind Seven would assumedly be keen to keep all rights.

Of course, it wasn’t that long ago that the AFL did use also be on 10 but Seven ultimately snapped up all the rights.

Still, if there’s one thing we can all learn from television it’s that things can change! Nine nabbed the Tennis off Seven after all.

Naturally, Twitter is abuzz with the rumours.

Channel 10 is making a bid for AFL broadcasting rights and the 10 year old inside me who grew up on late 2000s AFL and Stephen Quartermain and Anthony Hudson and Robert Walls and the 5 minute warning is so excited

If it means we don't have Wayne Carey on our screens anymore, I'm all for the AFL going back to Channel 10.

Oh, and bring back the 5 minute warning!

"I just get the sense something is happening with Channel 10. I think it's strange the AFL is going all the way to LA, then New York for a meeting with CBS without there being a major push to change the FTA broadcast from after 2024."

A Paramount ANZ spokesperson told B&T,  “We have stated publicly that we will always consider and look at rights to sports as they become available in this market.

“The Australian media landscape has changed considerably since the broadcast rights for Australian Football League (AFL) last went to tender.

“Paramount is in a unique position both domestically and globally with platforms including Network 10 and the world’s fastest-growing streaming service, Paramount+, and is perfectly poised to bid for broadcast rights for AFL.”

So they certainly aren’t denying the rumours, interesting.
