Carat Australia has released the second edition of their ‘Top Ten Trends’, offering the agency’s perspective on the key issues set to shape the media landscape in 2017 and beyond. A handy dandy tear-out is available in the latest issue of B&T magazine!

Driven by the business’ newly appointed Head of Innovation, Rob Tilt, this year’s edition is a combination of exciting new innovations, as well as updates on the evolution of some more established themes already in play, including the industry’s topic du jour, Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Other themes to make the cut include the explosion of live video and the ensuing power shift in the battle for sports broadcasting rights; the increasing prevalence of next generation digital assistants – smarter and more intuitive than ever, and the impact of the feature appropriation war currently being waged between the world’s biggest social apps.

Filter bubbles also emerged as a hot topic of discussion in 2016, due in large to the turbulent political climate. The report looks into the ‘dark side’ of automated personalisation – algorithms, and the challenges a consumer’s tightening sphere of influence presents for brands.

“This year, we cast a wider net with our trends. 2016 was a roller-coaster of surprises and controversy, so we looked long and hard at the year that was to help determine what’s in store for the year ahead. Some of our picks are immediately tangible, and some are ‘ones to watch’ that we predict will have deeper implications in the years to come,” said Tilt.

Carat’s ‘Top Ten Trends for 2017’ is available for download here.
