Legendary Actor Robert De Niro Stars In Truly Woeful Spot For Kia

He’s put his name to some absolute awful films of late (see: Dirty Grandpa and Little Fockers) and now acclaimed Hollywood actor, Robert De Niro, appears to be adding woeful ads to his list of underachievements.

The 75-year-old veteran actor stars in a new spot for Korean car marque Kia and its electric Niro range. The spot was made in conjunction with Kia’s lead agency Innocean Worldwide and its media agency Havas Media.

In the 40-second spot, a befuddled De Niro mistakes the script as calling for a “a trendy version of De Niro” when it actually asks for “a trendy version of the Niro”.

Yes, it’s truly painful on every touchpoint. As you’ll discover here:

The Kia ad’s in stark contrast to an absolute pearler De Niro did for British baker Warburton’s only last month. Check out that work here.

Commenting on the Kia work, Havas Group Media managing director Stephanie Marks said: “Our approach for this campaign is all about displaying the confidence and authority that such a great ambassador brings – breaking certain expectations to reflect the power and surprise of Kia.

“Within each channel, our placements are selected to be unmissable and of high quality, being in our audience’s spaces and talking to them in a way that aligns with the content they’re choosing to consume. Our aim is that Kia isn’t just front of mind when they’re in market, but that the brand is more relevant to their everyday life,” Marks said.
