“Ethnically Ambiguous!” The Perils Of Ad Making Skewered In Riotous Comedy Series

Making ads can be so ludicrous it was only a matter of time before someone parodied it.

And that’s exactly what a group of creatives in the US have done, launching an online comedy series called ‘Commercials’ that lampoons the advertising industry and its clients.

The brainchild of directorial collective JEAN and director Pam Thomas, the first in the series follows the travails of making a soft drink commercial and a demanding client who wants more “ethnically ambiguous” talent.

JEAN’s Natalie Prisco said of ‘Commercials’: “As commercial directors and former advertising creatives, we’ve experienced hundreds of completely ridiculous moments during productions where we looked at each other and said, ‘this needs to be a show.'”
