Bad Boys For Life topped the box office for its opening weekend, replacing 1917 as the biggest opening weekend for 2020.
The American action comedy film stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, and is the sequel to Bad Boys II (2003) in the Bad Boys franchise. It is directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
According to Val Morgan, in Australia, it had the fifth-biggest January opening of all time and is set for a $15M+ final position. It was also the top title for all under 40 age groups with even gender representation.
In second place, Dolittle opened stronger than Instant Family at the same time last year, and set for a $10M+ final position. it was the top title among families.
Coming in third for the weekend was 1917, which is the second highest grossing title of 2020 with $10.4M and only 1.5 weeks at the box office.
The one-shot wonder won Best Picture at the Producers Guild of America over the weekend, increasing its likelihood of becoming the 17th war movie to win Best Picture at the Oscars. 1917 is popular among the 18-39 group with even gender skew.
