Because Dos Equis’ ‘Most Interesting Man’ Was So Completely Brilliant, Its Efforts Since Have Poured Flat

Undoubtedly one of funniest and longest running campaigns in advertising history was Mexican beer brand Dos Equis’ “most interesting man in the world” (relive just some of the brilliance at the end of this article).

The campaign ran for a staggering 12 years, fronted by actor Jonathan Goldsmith, with the brand finally retiring it in 2018.

Sadly, for Dos Equis and its agency, the ads set such a benchmark arguably everything it’s done since just looks a little – dare we say it? – flat.

Take its latest work called ‘pregame’, the spot plays directly at a Millennial audience and pokes fun at the lockdown we’ve all endured over the past 12 months.

The ad’s the work of creative agency Sid Lee and was directed by famed ad director Ric Cantor who’s worked on campaigns such as McDonald’s, Domino’s, Jaguar and Mars.

Check it out below:

Meanwhile, relive the genius of “the most interesting man in the world” in this homage…
