Bauer Media has announced the resignation of its highly respected general manager of motoring, Ged Bulmer, who will step down at the end of 2018 to pursue other opportunities.
The announcement was made by Bauer media GM of publishing, Terry King, who expressed his appreciation for Bulmer’s significant contribution to Bauer’s motoring brands over the past five years.
“I would like to thank Ged for his strong leadership and great strategic direction during an important period of transformation and growth at Bauer Trader Media,” King said.
“Ged’s skills and expertise as a publisher have helped ensure Bauer’s motoring titles consistently delivered above-trend circulation performance and strong readership growth in successive Roy Morgan surveys.
“During his tenure, Ged’s influence extended beyond print and into our digital business, where he was a leader in developing and implementing new editorial systems and processes that have helped deliver the impressive audience growth we’ve achieved.
“We‘re obviously disappointed to see Ged go but he leaves Bauer Motoring in a strong position, having played a key role in our next big project, the launch of WhichCar TV, which goes to air on Channel 10 in mid-January.
“It goes without saying that Ged goes with our very best wishes for every success in his new endeavours,” said King.
Matt Rice, Bauer Media’s commercial director, said Bulmer was one of the most commercially astute publishers he’d worked with.
“Ged’s reputation and contacts in the motoring space are without peer and his background as an editor and content creator means he’s second to none when it comes to the business of commercialising content. His influence will be sorely missed,” Rice said.
Commenting on his resignation, Bulmer said his time at Bauer had been one of the most exciting, dynamic and rewarding of his career to date.
“I’m immensely proud to have been able to mentor such a talented group of young editors, journalists, graphic designers and other publishing specialists – to have been able to pass on the skills of great magazine craft – while at the same time developing such a thriving digital business,” he said.
“There have been many highlights but some that stand out are the ongoing project to digitize the entire Wheels back-catalogue, effectively making 65 years of Australia’s richest archive of automotive content available for future publishing initiatives; the establishment of the Australian Motoring Awards, now regarded as the auto industry’s night-of-nights; and successfully navigating the transition from traditional publisher to a more diversified content creation business.
