This is not a 30 second commercial:
When I was 5 I would sit on the floor near the stereo to hit record as my favourite song went to air, really, who didn’t? I would get so frustrated as the jock faded down the last seconds and spoke over the end to create a seamless intro for his voice break. Why did he have to do that? Why is the same lady voicing the local corner store ad and the local petrol station ad? Why did I have to listen to the news every half hour before I went to school but as soon as school was in, the adults only had to listen once an hour? Also, every time I heard the same commercial in the one break I’d think it was an error, it stood out, I remembered it, I just had no idea why they made the same mistake over and over again.
When I was 11 I volunteered at my local station, I started asking why everything was the way it was? It has and always will be my favourite question to ask, why. I found out the answers to all of my 5 year old curiosities and instantly fell in love with radio. There is so much depth, strategy & planning behind what the everyday person actually hears. As time went on I decided radio ads weren’t just annoying breaks between the music, they were a fine art methodically thought out and I wanted to be a part of that process.
17 year old me packed up and moved to Bathurst to tackle a BA Communications – Commercial Radio Advertising. Here I learned to do what I do every single day. Use radio & all of its natural extensions to drive & deliver results for each of my individual clients no matter the size or scope of the campaign.
This is why I do what I do. I don't care who takes the responsibility for success, I just like to win.
