Seven has dominated the Australian Sports Commission awards winning three categories on Thursday evening in Melbourne.
Bruce McAvaney won the best coverage of sport by an individual in broadcast media for work including the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, AFL season, Australian Open tennis and the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Bruce’s calls of Usain Bolt’s three gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m final were simply sublime, capturing the showmanship and athleticism of arguably the world’s greatest ever athlete.
Seven’s Olympics on 7 app took out the award for best contribution to sport by an organisation through digital media. The app captured countless magic moments from Rio 2016 and delivered sports fans up to 900 hours of Seven’s Olympic Games broadcast live from Channel 7, 7TWO and 7mate. It brought sports fans up to 36 channels with 3000 hours of HD coverage, along with 300 hours of additional streams not broadcast on TV, and video highlights, medal tallies, photos and athlete profiles.
Seven also won the best coverage of sport for people with a disability award for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Seven undertook the most extensive coverage of a Paralympic Games ever – every key moment was delivered to all Australians across 7TWO and streamed on 7Live to connected devices. Seven was proud to capture dramatic vision of some of the most extraordinary and inspirational moments in sports, including the emotional outpouring of tennis gold medallist Dylan Alcott, whose triumph meant so much more than just a sporting contest.
Seven’s head of sport Saul Shtein commented: “These awards are a tribute for the hard work and creativity from the entire team at Seven. Our crew has worked incredibly hard to create indelible images that build their own story and create their own place in history as they unfold live on TV and multiple screens across Australia. And this is a great reward for that effort.”
