Aussie Netflix Fans Fume At Price Hikes & “Shit” Content, Plus Threats To Illegally Download

Aussie Netflix Fans Fume At Price Hikes & “Shit” Content, Plus Threats To Illegally Download

As B&T reported yesterday, SVOD provider Netflix is hiking its monthly subscriptions by as much as 20 per cent for its Aussie customers. The increases are due in 30 days for existing subscriptions or effectively immediately for new ones.

The increases are due, in part, to the federal government’s new digital goods tax announced in May’s Budget that adds 10 per cent to any online goods purchased from overseas, while Netflix already had cheeky plans to slug customers with a subs increase anyway.

Despite the modest increases (the basic package is still only $9.99 a month), Netflix users have taken to social media to vent their rage, with many suggesting they’ll abandon subscriptions and simply illegally download their favourite shows.

Netflix’s price increases come just as arch-rival Foxtel unveil a suite of new deals from as low as $10 per month.

Some of the social media rage towards Netflix veered from its content was “shit” and “garbage” anyway, while others were more conciliatory over what, really are, modest hikes. Read some of the rage below:
