Australian comedian Dan Ilic is continuing his campaign to ridicule the federal government for climate change inaction.
Last month, it was revealed the host of the A Rational Fear podcast was launching ‘JokeKeeper: Shaming Australia’s climate inaction’ – a new campaign which aims to “fix Australia’s lies” at the upcoming UN COP26 summit in Glasgow.
The plan was to create a series of billboards for Glasgow to show the people representing Australia at the climate talks “don’t necessarily represent Australians”.
One such design included; ‘Cuddle A Koala! Before we make them extinct’ by artist James Hillier.
At the time, he had already raised $62,900 – far more than the $12,500 required to set up the billboards in Glasgow.
Two weeks on and Ilic’s fundraising efforts have not slowed down. The campaign’s Indiegogo page shows there has so far been over $147,000 donated to the cause.
With a bigger budget at his disposal, Ilic has decided to up the stakes, launching a billboard in one of the busiest places in the world.
Ilic announced he had booked the biggest billboard in Times Square.
“G’day Fearmongers! Thrilled to announce that this Thursday night in New York City, we have booked THE BIGGEST BILLBOARD in TIMES SQUARE!” Ilic said.
Despite the impressive crowd sourcing, budget constraints mean the ‘Godzilla’ billboard in NYC will only be displaying Ilic’s campaign for 10 minutes.
Ilic is encouraging anyone in New York to get down to Times Square and take photos and videos of the billboard.
