Ten’s coverage of the ARIA awards last night proved a success as 586,000 viewers tuned in according to the latest OzTam figures. The results showed an increased audience of over 20 per cent on 2015’s figures and its best figures since 2010.
Kicking-off at the earlier time of 7.30pm, the annual music awards night was the tenth most watched show of the evening, however, it still managed to get beaten in the time slot by Seven’s First Dates (663,000 viewers).

Among highlights of last night’s awards, was a topless performance by The Veronicas, Crowded House’s induction into the ARIA Hall Of Fame, and Kyle Sandilands managing to embarrass co-presenter Sophie Monk when the two handed out the gong for Best Pop Release.
The banter between the two started harmlessly enough when Sandilands asked Monk about her Bardot days (Monk was one of five in the all-girl group who won the reality TV show Popstars in 1999).
Sandilands enquired how many ARIAs Bardot had won, to which Monk replied, “None.”
“Sorry about that,” Sandilands went on, “Ripped off I say … Why don’t you bring the girls back together again?”
However, Sandilands revealed to his radio audience this morning that Monk subsequently ripped into him backstage after their tête-à-tête. Apparently, the members of Bardot all hated each other and no longer kept in contact.
“Sophie went mad at me after that,” Sandilands told co-host Jackie O, his comments reported on News.com.au
“She’s like, ‘Put me on the spot about putting the girls back … we never got on!”
“We all thought they were loving each other,” Sandilands said about the girl group, “I thought they were doing pillow fights.”
Jackie O, who actually judged the series of Popstars where Bardot won, added: “I was in the show and I didn’t even know they hated each other … I wasn’t aware until after.”
