APN Outdoor has announced the appointment of Philip Knox (right in photo) as chief financial officer, effective 5 March 2018.

APN’s CEO, James Warburton (left in photo), welcomed the appointment of Knox as a key step in his plan to transform the company through increased innovation, data-led insights and revamping the go-to-market approach to fully harness the potential of its market-leading portfolio and digital assets.

Warburton said, “We are excited to have someone of Philip’s calibre join our team and I am thrilled to welcome him back to media where his passion lies. Philip has great CFO experience having helped lead companies through high-growth, capital investment and M&A periods to transform organisations into data-oriented environments.

“I would also like to thank David Watkins for the outstanding job he has done through the transition including delivery of our 2017 annual results. David returns to his role as general manager finance. He and Philip will be a formidable pair.”

Knox has more than 30 years’ experience in CFO, board and finance leadership roles including 11 years as CFO of Austar United Communications up to its sale to Foxtel, and nine years at Ten Network Holdings. He is also a non-executive Director of G2 Therapies, Genome One Pty Ltd and YMCA Australia and will continue as a Non-Executive Director of YMCA Australia on joining APN Outdoor.

Over the past four years, Knox was COO, CFO and company secretary at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, where he revamped the corporate strategy, nearly doubled revenue and established commercial spin-offs creating sustainable income streams.

Knox has a Bachelor of Business (Accounting), is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Australian Institute Company Secretaries, and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Wharton Business School.
