Andy Lark Leaves Post As Xero’s CMO

Xero’s prolific chief marketing office, Andy Lark, is leaving the accounting software firm as it undergoes a shuffle of management positions.

Lark joined Xero two years ago off the back of stints as global marketing executive for Dell and CMO for Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and currently sits as chairman for Simple The Marketing Performance Platform.

Xero yesterday announced changes to its organisational structure to support its strategy of reaching $1 billion of operating revenues.

Among the shuffle, the function of the chief marketing and revenue officer will be replaced by a chief marketing officer who will focus on global brand and marketing communications, according to a statement on ASX.

Given the changes to the global organisational structure, Lark has taken the opportunity to “pursue new ventures”, per the company’s announcement on the stock exchange.

“Andy has had a long-standing relationship with Xero, previously consulting with senior executives, and has played a key role in driving Xero’s success and building capability across regions to provide a scalable platform for continued global growth.

“Xero sincerely wishes Andy all the best in his future endeavours,” the statement concluded.

Lark was named one of Australia’s top three most innovative marketers for 2015 by CMO50’s inaugural list, and last year boasted one of the most viewed LinkedIn profiles in the country, up there with M&C Saatchi CEO Jaimes Leggett.

Speaking at the Forrester CX Marketing Summit in April, Lark said, “There’s been a shift away from how we think about marketing in a business. The very best marketers out there are simply going to challenge how everything functions.”

“The real problem is that most marketing teams today are swimming in their swim lane, the technology team are swimming in their swim lane, and the brand team is swimming in their swim lane.

“You’ve got to break those lanes and intersect them to build success.”
