An article which appeared in the New York Times documenting some of the apparent harsh working conditions at retail giant, Amazon, has seen Amazon hit back with its own article about the piece.

The NYT piece said many of the people working at Amazon would cry at their desks.

The report said workers who had suffered from cancer, miscarriages, or other issues, had not been giving sufficient time to recover with some being “edged out” or unfairly evaluated.

In particular one line that really got Amazon riled up, enough to publish an article on independent publishing site Medium combating the expose, was attributed to former worker Bo Olsen, who worked in books marketing.

He said in the NYT article: “Nearly every person I worked, I saw cry at their desk.”

Jay Carney, senior vice president for global corporate affairs at Amazon, took to Medium to describe extra information about Olsen the NTY reportedly excluded.

“Here’s what the story didn’t tell you about Mr. Olson: his brief tenure at Amazon ended after an investigation revealed he had attempted to defraud vendors and conceal it by falsifying business records,” wrote Carney.

“When confronted with the evidence, he admitted it and resigned immediately.”

Carney said the authors of the NYT piece, Jodi Kantor and David Streitfeld, had been in contact with him working on the piece, and yet had not asked for more detail about those who had given quotes within the piece.
