The internet is truly a weird place. So weird, in fact, you have parents attempting to sell their children via an online advertisement.
A Darwin parent has tried to sell their child for the bargain price of $50 in an advertisement on Gumtree.
The post, “Kid for sale fifty bucks”, was listed over the weekend and included a photo of the boy, as reported by NT News.
The ad also included the child was a male, “identifies as a three meter flatty (fish)” and can be delivered or picked up.
An exact pick-up address was also listed, which has been withheld.
The ad is no longer listed on Gumtree.
Gumtree told 7NEWS.com.au ads like this are not tolerated on the platform.
In a statement, Gumtree said: “We rely on our users’ feedback to keep the platform safe and we do not tolerate these types of adverts on Gumtree.
“We have a variety of measures in place to ensure they do not make it on to the platform and work closely with law enforcement agencies to share information.
“We strongly encourage our engaged community to report any concerning listings believed to be unlawful in any way.”
B&T contacted Gumtree for comment but didn’t receive a response at the time of publication.
