Famous Anti-Piracy Campaign Parodied In Invasion Day Ad

Satirical website The Juice Media has cleverly revived the famous anti-piracy campaign in a new ad that compares celebrating Australia Day on 26 January to celebrating tragic events in world history.

The crowdfunded ad opens to a girl organising an Australia Day event on Facebook, and then compares celebrations on 26 January to the September 11 attacks in the US, the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima, and Nazi Germany’s “Final Solution” to exterminate the Jews.

The ad then suggests that celebrating on 26 January “is kinda f***ed up”, before the girl cancels her event online and leaves her room.

The ad finishes on an image of European ships, identical to one which featured in The Monkeys’ latest Australia Day ad for Meat & Livestock Australia, emblazoned with the words “Piracy. It’s a crime.” and followed up with the hashtag #changethedate.
