Dentsu Aegis Network Boss Simon Ryan Joins Carsales As Commercial MD

ASX-listed vehicle marketplace Carsales has announced the appointment for Simon Ryan as its managing director of commercial.

Ryan is currently the CEO of Dentsu Aegis Network across Australia and New Zealand – a role he has held since February 2016.

The impending resignation of Ryan from his position at DAN was announced this morning.

He brings to Carsales over 25 years’ experience in media and communications, which includes leading organisational transformation and growth.

Carsales CEO Cameron McIntyre said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Simon to Carsales. He is an excellent cultural fit and his capability, experience and knowledge of the media industry and our market make him an incredibly valuable addition to the team.

“As we continue to evolve and realise our business potential, it’s critical we are attracting and retaining the best talent available and Simon is a clear representation of that.

Commenting on his appointment, Ryan said: “I’ve had a strong professional and personal relationship with Carsales for many years. This opportunity represents a combination of living my passion for cars in a business I see has substantial opportunity.

“I’m looking forward to playing a big part in Carsales’ future. My experience over many years in media and communications positions me well to support the business in the delivery of its strategy and growth potential.”

Ryan’s recruitment follows Anthony Saines’ decision to resign from his position as Carsales’ managing director of commercial, effective 31 December 2018.

Saines will continue to consult to Carsales on a number of opportunities in 2019.

Cameron said Saines has made a significant contribution to Carsales business and its evolution over many years.

“During his time with us, he has led significant initiatives to improve operations, guide our strategy and drive future growth,” he said.

“He has been a great asset to Carsales and I will personally miss his friendship and wise counsel. On behalf of the entire company, we wish him the very best. “

Commenting on his departure, Saines said: “It has been an enormous privilege to have led Carsales’ commercial team during such an important period of transformation and growth.

“I am proud to have worked closely with Cam and Greg Roebuck before him, as well as so many remarkable colleagues in building a truly world-class business.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to be part of an energised, talented team that is so committed to delivering excellence to our clients in Australia and across the world.

“Simon is a good mate. I look forward to working with him during the transition and wish him well.”
