ASCA Puts The ‘Spotlight’ On Aussie Child Abuse Statistics

A new ASCA ad targets Oscar nominated movie Spotlight to highlight the issues experienced by adults surviving child abuse.

ASCA is the leading national organisation dedicated to improving the lives of Australian adults who have experienced childhood trauma and abuse.

Childhood trauma affects an estimated 5 million Australian adults and many struggle day to day with their self esteem, relationships as well as their mental and physical health.

Created by Sydney agency Matterhorn, the film highlights the fact that a staggering 1in 4 adults in Australia have experienced childhood trauma and abuse.

You can see the spot here.

Matterhorn co-founder Matt Kemsley said, “It’s such an important issue. ASCA does great work and deserves all the support we can give.

“It’s brilliant that Val Morgan, PlayFilms, facebook and Edge DP all got behind this campaign. Cinema is an incredibly powerful way to reach an engaged audience and given Spotlights’ confronting and moving story, it is the perfect place to reach out and seek peoples understanding and help.”

Dr. Cathy Kezelman AM and president of ASCA added, “Showing the ASCA ad before the pivotal movie, Spotlight provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the broader societal issue of childhood trauma, including in the home, family and neighbourhood.

“We would like to thank Matterhorn and all the other organisations which have shown their support and commitment to helping to break the stigma and taboo around childhood trauma and abuse and provide a pathway to support. Help and support is available from the ASCA professional support line on 1300 657 380,
9am- 5pm Monday-Sunday.”

The film also drives people to a dedicated website, 1in4.com.au which links to your facebook page to really drive home the chilling truth that many of your friends are also likely survivors.
