The school the tsunami built

Samsung’s latest Companion Stories film features the inspiring and moving tale of Trisha Silvers and her Broadbridge Education centre in Thailand.

The story follows Silvers after she tragically lost her new husband and AFL player, Troy Broadbridge, to the 2004 tsunami on Boxing Day.

In the aftermath of the tsunami Silvers established the Reach Broadbridge Fund and, with the help of Broadbridge’s football club teammates, built the Broadbridge Education Centre on Phi Phi.

The video shows her commitment and dedication to setting up the Broadbridge Education centre, allowing young people to be educated in her husband’s memory.

Silvers talks about how creating something in Troy’s legacy has helped her to heal, and shows her in the classroom with the kids and head teacher.

The Broadbridge Education centre provides hope to the victims of the tsunami, encouraging them to return to the local community.

According to the website, the Broadbridge Fund aims to “properly reflect Troy Broadbridge’s life and legacy, fitting the objectives of all AFL players who wished to honour Troy and support those people whose lives were shattered by the Tsunami”.

The couple had only been married eight days before and were on their honeymoon when the tsunami hit.

Silvers’ story is the most recent tale in Samsung’s Companion Stories, a series of short online films to promote the new Samsung Galaxy S4.

The Grandma of Rock, Grandma Mary, is another story brought to life by Samsung.
