New Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has released his first advert since returning to power calling on an end to “negative politics”, in a 30-second talking head spot.
On Friday an ad from the Liberal Party attacking an apparent stutter by cabinet minister Julie Collins attracted negative commentary from some groups, while they have also re-traced the “faceless men” attack ads when he returned to power last month.
In the Labor party spot, which sees Rudd sat in his office facing the camera with no cutaways, he earnestly intones: “I believe all Australians are sick and tired of negative politics. I believe people want all of us to raise the standards.”
He then lists a raft of conditions he believes should be the same for people in the city and countryside.
