Make your Australia Day at the GIO wheelchair race

Paralympic athletes are the star of a new campaign called ‘Make my Australia Day’ for the GIO Oz Day 10 kilometer wheelchair race at Sydney’s The Rocks.

Champion wheelchair athlete, Kurt Fearnley (pictured), is headlining the campaign which includes radio, print and social  media activities.

Other stars of the campaign include London triple Paralympic track medalist, Angie Ballard, and newcomers Sara Tait and Luke Bailey, who are both 14 years old.

All athletes feature in a ‘GIO here’ video on the Wheelchair Sports NSW Facebook page.

Fearnley said: “This is the first time Australian wheelchair athletes will have competed on home soil since the London Paralympics, and no athlete performs better than when they have the support of the crowd behind them. We want Australia with us, pushing us to do our absolute best.”

GIO will provide a free Big Aussie Breakfast at Circular Quay for spectators of the Australia Day event.

Fans also have the chance to win at BBQ valued at more than $2,500 by going to the Wheelchair Sports NSW Facebook page and answering the question, “what would be your ultimate Australia day?”.
