Female representation not just moral issue but 'commercial consideration'

STW has launched a new mentoring program through its Women in Leadership (WIL) group describing the issue of female of representation in the industry as “no longer just a moral issue but a commercial consideration”.

The initiative is designed to help support junior team members through key phases of career transition, and will feature structured programs in areas including coaching, sponsorship, advice, specific

skill development, and friendship.

WIL committee member and MD Oceania Buchanan Group, Suzanne Acteson said the program would extend their work to a range of levels inside the business.

She said: “I’m thrilled to launch this program because it helps women on so many levels, but particularly those going through a transitionary phase in their careers.

“These are the women that often organisations may lose as a result of not supporting, mentoring and helping them get to the next stage in their careers. Instead of figuring it out on their own, we are helping them find their 'next step' which is hopefully inside the STW group of companies.”

In February the Communications Council’s Salary Survey cited an 11% rise in the number of women in senior positions in 2012, representing 34%, but just 29% were in the top jobs in their various organizations.

Acteson added: “It is essential for all of our business to support women upward into senior leadership positions, because for a start, the more evenly gender balanced our leadership teams, the more profitable our businesses can become.”

B&T has launched the Women in Media Awards as part of the MAD Week festival of events. Click this link for more information.
