Accenture Report Reveals That Most Aussies Have Never Heard Of The Term Metaverse

Information technology company Accenture have released their Technology Vision report for 2022, where it is revealed that an alarmingly high number of Australian citizens – higher than the global average – don’t know what the metaverse is or what is refers to.

When it comes to all things ‘meta’ (virtual or augmented realities, NFTs, Web3, etc.), you would think that most people around us have a common knowledge and understanding of what it’s all about. Well, according to Accenture’s recent TechVision Report for 2022, you’d be wrong in that assumption, as it’s been brought to light that only a small percentage (23 percent to be exact) of Aussies really get the gist of it, despite the fact that the new era is practically at our doorstep.

This new report shows the impact that the metaverse will have in the financial industry, as 93 percent of Australian executives that took part in the poll all agreed that it will have a positive effect on their organisations, while 91 percent said that the gradual launch of Web 3.0 will change the way they do business with their clients.

Yet another alarming fact to be revealed by the Accenture TechReport 2022 was the low level of trust between clients and companies, with a meagre 22 percent (and 35 percent globally) having faith in how the organisations will put these new technologies to use, while a high number of people (82 percent) believing that companies need to be held accountable for the improper use of artificial intelligence (AI).

Accenture have released their TechReport for 2022, highlighting all new trends.

Meanwhile, as the new technologies are being implemented and introduced to more and more businesses across the country, Australian executives have expressed their fears of being hacked or attacked with misinformation. Specifically, IT/Security breaches (65 percent), fraud and scams (55 percent) and reputational damage (50 percent) are at the top of the list of concerns for business owners in the country.

Accenture’s TechVision Report for 2022 also highlights the biggest trends that companies will need to deliver on. Those are:

  • WebMe: Putting the Me in Metaverse – Metaverse and Web3 are poised to reshape the internet.
  • Programmable World: Our Planet, Personalized As emerging technologies such as 5G, ambient computing, augmented reality and smart materials advance, digital environments will be increasingly woven into the fabric of our physical world.
  • The Unreal: Making Synthetic, Authentic– Businesses and environments are increasingly supported by AI-generated data that convincingly reflects the physical world.
  • Computing the Impossible: New Machines, New Possibilities – The emergence of a new class of machines is empowering organisations across industries to stretch the boundaries of what computers can solve.

80 percent of Australian executives also pointed out that the blockchain will play an integral part in their company’s ability to locate and verify the origins of digital content.
