Yahoo7 employees downed tools and took up hacking for the day.
The company held its annual Hack Day, a 24-hour innovation competition focused on developing solutions to the company’s challenges in mobile, video and for the programs that support its media network.
A total of 40 Yahoo7 engineers presented 25 ‘hacks’ (potential products or services) to an executive panel featuring James Filmer, chief innovation officer at UM, along with Yahoo7’s CEO Stuart Sayers, chief technology officer Craig Penfold, commercial director Damon Scarr and product director Harry Burt.
It was the first time a media agency insider – Filmer – got to see the process.
Scarr said: “It is important for us to foster collaborative relationships with our media agency clients. We’ve opened up the kimono and given a peek into not only how we drive innovation, but into some of the innovations that could well become new Yahoo7 products.”
Filmer (pictured) added: “It was a fantastic experience. The engineers who presented are clearly very passionate and it was great to see the calibre of what they could turn around in such a short space of time.
“The digital landscape is such a rapidly evolving one that today’s products can never be relied upon to meet the demands of tomorrow. As such, it’s great to see Yahoo7 directly involve clients in helping shape their offer.”
