Yahoo’s Mayer fires her 2 IC, editor-in-chief quits

Yahoo’s Mayer fires her 2 IC, editor-in-chief quits

The CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer, has fired chief operating officer of Yahoo Henrique de Castro, it has been reported.

De Castro was Mayer’s first major hire after poaching him from Google in October, 2012.

Technology website Recode also published the internal memo Mayer provided the Yahoo staff about de Castro’s departure.

According to the memo “the media unit will now come under the purview of CMO Kathy Savitt”.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the departure of de Castro is yet another sign the company is beginning to struggle to revive growth.

On top of that, Recode and BusinessInsider have reported that Yahoo’s editor-in-chief, Jai Singh, has also quit one day after de Castro’s exit.

A spokesperson from Yahoo Australia declined to comment.
