When the ABC news update makes it into the top 20 free to air shows, you know that nobody is really trying hard enough to win eyeballs.
In what must be regarded as television’s leftovers dinner evening, the Channel Seven news topped the charts with an honest, but far from spectacular, 1.32 million viewers. Nine’s news came third with 1.28 million viewers.
Channel Nine’s the Big Bang Theory and a repeat thereof came in second and fourth respectively and first and second in the 16-39 demographic with 1.29 and 1.28 million apiece overall.
In what must be a cost-effective evening for the networks, apart from news and current affairs, there were no locally produced programs inside of the top 10 with the exception of Highway Patrol, which came in ninth overall with 988,000 viewers.
Speaking of locally produced dramas, Channel Seven’s Home & Away (pictured) came in 11th spot overall with 945,000 viewers.
Other local shows to make the top 20 list worth a mention include the ABC’s Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell came 18th with 671,000 viewers and Channel Nine’s Hot Seat went one better with 17th spot and 703,000 viewers.
