EXCLUSIVE: Creative agency The Monkeys has scored a notable win after being appointed as the agency to lead marketing duties for the AFC Asian Cup 2015 to be held in Australia.

Billed as the biggest football tournament ever to be staged in Australia, The Monkeys will be responsible for all marketing activity around the 23-day festival of football, building awareness of the tournament and driving a campaign with a target of 500,000 ticket sales.

"This appointment marks another important step on our journey towards delivering a world-class event Australia can be proud of,” said Local Organising Committee (LOC) CEO Michael Brown.

"Marketing this event powerfully is central to our key goals of celebrating Asia’s rich football heritage and leaving a lasting legacy for football," he added.

The Monkeys CEO, Mark Green, said: “We are delighted to be working with the LOC. We are all football fans, so this won’t feel like work at all.

“Football is obviously on the rise in Australia, with the success of the A-League, three World Cup finals in a row for the Socceroos and now hosting rights for the AFC Asian Cup. This is a massive event, and we are very excited about marketing a tournament of this stature in our own backyard."

The LOC and The Monkeys will immediately begin developing a marketing strategy and concepts in the lead-up to the event’s 'one year to go' countdown on January 9.

The Australian public, plus an expected 45,000 international visitors, will get the chance to see Asia’s top 16 teams battle for number one status on the world’s biggest continent.

AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 will take place from January 9-31 in five host cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Newcastle.
