The Australian seeks new marketing boss

Exclusive: The Australian is in the market for a new marketing manager after it was confirmed that Campbell Mitchell is to leave his role at News Corp.

Mitchell (pictured), who was awarded the PANPA  Marketer of the Year last year, is to return home to New Zealand for family reasons.

His most recent achievement was leading The Australian’s new brand campaign, Search | Know | More, aimed at bolstering its reputation for news, opinion and analysis.

Campbell was appointed to the role of general manager digital, marketing & retail sales at The Australian just over a year ago as part of the  News’ restructure.

Prior to that he was marketing and strategy director at NewsLocal, where he launched the division’s multi-award winning rejuvenation project, which News describes as "a successful 18-month ‘whole of business’ transformation project, informed by extensive research, and in collaboration with consumers, advertisers and internal stakeholders to rejuvenate all consumer and advertiser offerings."

In this role he also successfully rebranded a 100 year old heritage brand – Cumberland and Courier Newspapers – to NewsLocal.

"Campbell has been outstanding in his time at News – the work he’s done at The Australian and before that at NewsLocal, for which he won PANPA Marketer of the Year, has delivered enormous value to the company. We are extremely sorry to see him go and everyone wishes him the very best,” a News Corp Australia spokesperson told B&T.
