Last night’s screening of the fist mid-year Ashes test between Australia and England on Nine’s digital channel Gem saw a dramatic jump in its audience share to enter OzTam’s Top 20 highest rating shows at 16th place.
The digital channel that usually takes around 300,000 viewers saw its audience double to 627,000. It saw the network rated as the most popular digital channel with 12.2% audience share – the top spot usually dominated by ABC2 thanks to the all-day children's programing.
The Ashes combined with the 1.345m that tuned into the night’s most popular show The Block Sky High saw Channel Nine take a huge 39.2% of overall audience share.
MasterChef also entered the Top Ten for a first time with the show usually skirting around the late 20s, taking an audience of 777,000. The Project has also started moving up in the ratings as the 20th most highly rated program and contributing to Ten’s 17.3% viewer share.
Seven’s second episode of new show Surveillance took 567,000 viewers at 19th place and combined with Today Tonight, Home & Away and Criminal Minds to see the network have 22.1% audience share.
ABC had 15.6% with Adam Hills Tonight its most popular non-news related show with 649,000 viewers.
