Gem’s screening of The Ashes saw the digital channel break into last night’s ten most highly rated programs, while Masterchef was missing from its usual place in the top 20, according to OzTam’s preliminary ratings.
Day one of the second Ashes test took 807,000 viewers and 9th place on the rankings for Gem, giving Nine’s audience share a spike to 39.7% and beating the other free-to-air channels.
Masterchef dropped out of the top 20 with a viewership of 495,000 after having once debuted to 1.11 million. Ten’s only programs to make it into the top 20 were the news and Law & Order with 680,000 and 499,000 viewers respectively. The network had 15.2% of last night’s audience share.
Nine News was the evening’s highest rating show with 1.317m viewers followed by The Block Sky High with 1.276m. The Footy Show was another big contributor to the network’s ratings domination attracting 756,000 viewers and winning against Seven’s screening of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides which took just over half a million.
Seven had 23.5% of audiences the news and Today Tonight its top shows, attracting 1.192m and 1.01m viewers respectively.
The ABC had 15.6% of last night’s viewers while SBS had 6.6%.
