Ten raids Y&R again taking Matt McGrath for new marketing role

Network Ten has continued its raid on Y&R Brands’ top ranks, taking former CEO and executive chairman Matt McGrath for the newly created role of chief brand officer.

The job will see him put in charge of all brand communications, marketing and promotions.

He joins former global CEO of Y&R Hamish McLennan, now Ten’s chief executive, and Australian CEO Russel Howcroft, who is in charge of operations outside of Sydney, at the broadcaster.

McGrath is an indirect replacement for chief marketing officer Tony McMaster, who was ousted shortly after former CEO James Warburton was fired in February,

McLennan, said: “I have known Matt for many years and he is without doubt one of the best creative and strategic minds in the Australian media and marketing sector.

“I am delighted he has agreed to join Network Ten to work on our external and internal marketing, including our messaging around our core programs.

“Matt will create a consistent view of our brand, on and off air, and bring innovative thinking to how we communicate with consumers and advertisers.”

Marketing and brand awareness will be increasingly important strategies for Ten, as it looks to rebuild audiences which disappeared in droves last year, ahead of the launch of some of its bigger franchises, including MasterChef and the Wallabies facing the British and Irish Lions.
