Ten hires Buttrose for new morning gig

Media legend and Australian-of-the-Year Ita Buttrose has been hired by Channel Ten to front its new morning show.  

Buttrose has agreed a deal that will see her join Ten’s new panel-based morning show – set to air later in the year – as the network attempts to take on its FTA rivals at the lucrative TV timeslot.

The show is one of two programs being developed by Ten’s director of morning television, Adam Boland, with the other being the network’s new breakfast show.

Magazine publishing doyen Buttrose, who has twice been voted Australia’s most admired woman, was the editor of The Australian Women's Weekly, the founding editor of Cleo. She was also the first woman to ever edit a major metropolitan newspaper in Australia as Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph, and was the first female director of News Limited.

Network Ten Chief Executive Officer, Hamish McLennan, said: “Like all Australians, I have long admired Ita Buttrose’s remarkable contribution to our country, through her publishing and media career and her vast array of charitable activities. Everyone at Ten is extremely pleased – and flattered – that she has agreed to join our network and become an integral part of our new morning show.”

Buttrose added: “I am looking forward to working with Adam Boland and the TEN team to give Australian audiences a morning show with edge, energy and above all, enjoyment."

Last week, it was reported that Manly Beach had been earmarked as the most likely location for either the morning or breakfast show.

When contacted by B&T about a launch date for the new breakfast and morning shows, and whether Manly was penciled in as one of the locations, Ten was unable to provide further comment.
