Ten fires chief marketing officer as clearout starts

The first chief marketing officer appointed by a free-to-air network Tony McMaster has been sacked as the clear out of the underachieving network’s upper echelons gathers pace.

Tony McMaster, who was appointed by ousted CEO James Warburton last March, has been “marched from the building” according to sources, with the network saying “the structure and focus of our Marketing department is being reviewed”.

He had been brought in to help improve Ten’s market performance and increase the profile of programs, but in the past 12 months the network has seen a downward spiral in the ratings.

McMaster was relationship director of marketing services before taking the Ten role, and had also been a marketer at McDonald’s.

A statement from Ten added: “Network marketing manager, Kelly Schaffer, will now report to Network Ten’s chief programming officer, Beverley McGarvey.”
