Ten: The Australian “over-excited” by rumours of Wake Up getting axed

Ten has accused The Australian as being “over-excited” regarding rumours its breakfast show Wake Up was on the chopping block.

A Ten spokesperson said no decisions have been made and told B&T the report was Michael Bodey, the author, at his “creative best”.

“When it comes to kite-flying, he puts Benjamin Franklin to shame,” said the spokesperson.

“Peter Meakin has been at Ten for less than two months. As you would expect, he is having a look at all of our news and current affairs programs. But no decisions have been made.

“The Australian has become over-excited about rumours being spread by mischief-makers at other networks.”

The report, ‘It could be good night for Wake Up as Ten rebuilds’ outlines how Meakin, executive director of news and current affairs, is currently reviewing the breakfast program and is considering a “number of options”.

Further focusing on Ten’s current position in the market, the report details how CEO Hamish McLennan (pictured) is positive about Ten’s future, but it will “take a while” to get out of its current state.

Ten’s recent half yearly results have seen a net loss after tax of $8 million for the network, with McLennan noting how the general entertainment content and scheduling had “underperformed and needs to be improved”.
