Nine slams the competition with State of Origin

Nine had a blockbuster night of ratings last night as its main channel won a whopping 38.4% of viewers, courtesy of the 2013 State of Origin curtain raiser.

The match pulled in 2.433 million viewers to Nine, according to OzTam’s preliminary metro ratings, with the majority (1.145 million) in Sydney to see the Blues pull of an important win. 

Media analyst Steve Allen has predicted the result will lead to blockbuster ratings later in the series, after a double-digit decline in audience in the Brisbane metro area.

The pre-match coverage sat in second with an audience of 1.787 million and 1.475 million stayed on after the game for the post-match broadcast.

Nine News followed with 1.389 million viewers, outperforming Seven News (1.286 million) and Ten News at Five (717,000).

The Block Sky High claimed fifth place for Nine with an audience of 1.302 million.

There was only one other non-news and current affair programs in the top 10, Seven’s Home and Away with 848,000 viewers. House Rules sat in 17th place with 630,000 viewers.

Ten’s most watched show on Wednesday evening was Offspring which performed well against the match, with an audience of 737,000 viewers.
