Online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au has pledged its support for the Wallabies with a huge painting showing a wallaby ‘rooting’ a lion.
The sign, which is more than 1.5 times the size of a full rugby pitch, is visible from high in the air above Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport, and has set a new world record.
The ‘Rooting for the Wallabies’ sign pledges Sportsbet.com.au’s support for the team’s three Tests against the British and Irish Lions, which kick off in Brisbane tomorrow night.
A statement from Sportsbet.com.au says the image shows a Wallaby “cuddling” a lion.
The players, from both sides, will fly into Tullamarine for the second Test a week later – and see the sign as they land.
Ben Hawes, from Sportsbet.com.au, said: “What better way to get behind the Wallabies than to create the world’s largest painting which depicts a wallaby getting behind a lion?”
Covering 15,030 square metres, it is officially the World Record holder for the largest painting. The previous record was held by the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports for a sign in Istanbul in May.
The sign also features the world’s largest hashtag – #rootingforoz.
