Young self-taught BMF director wins $10,000

A 24-year old, self-taught director has been awarded $10,000 this morning, having won an international competition by e-Harmony.

 Matt Sharp, who contributes to BMF and VnR Creative, heard about the competition the day before entries closed.

“I like to be a problem solver, so this brief was a great challenge for me,” Matt said.  “I stayed up with a friend, came up with a concept and shot and edited the next morning.”

The brief was to make a video about one of the company’s six traits of compatibility and his video sees a love-struck barista attempt to woo a beautiful customer.

“Matt’s video jumped out straight away. The production quality was very high, along with a very cute and quirky storyline. The talent was very likeable and we loved the overall link to the compatibility trait of ‘communication style’,” says eHarmony spokesperson Sarah Mason.

The freelance director is planning on using the money to fund his upcoming short film Penelope which explores the isolation of a glamorous woman in 1950s Los Angeles and stars Elisa Colla, the subject of his winning eHarmony entry.
