Safety and swimsuits mix

Air New Zealand has unveiled its new in-flight safety video in collaboration with the swimsuit franchise of Sports Illustrated, where previous reports suggested it is “objectifying women”.

Already the video has been suggested as “highly sexualised” and “objectifying women” the International Business Times reports.

With a stunning backdrop of Cook Island scenery the “Safety in paradise” video teaches all about in-flight safety, ironically without stepping foot in a plane at all.

Ditching its previous Hobbits and Goblins video, the collaboration ties in with Sports Illustrated’s 50th anniversary that will also see a major worldwide marketing campaign.

“The behind the scenes video has generated much conversation around the world about our brand and the Cook Islands as a destination since it was released last week,” Jodi Williams, Air New Zealand global head of brand development, said.

“It’s exciting for us to release the full video today and we hope it will encourage many viewers to consider a trip to the Cook Islands.”

The Cook Islands is a key destination for Air New Zealand, operating flights there for nearly 40 years and seeing almost 200,000 people choosing the Islands in 2013.

The video stars models Chrissy Teigen, Ariel Meredith, Hannah Davis and Jessica Gomes with a cameo appearance from three times Sports Illustrated cover girl and original model, Christie Brinkley.

Make sure you place your snorkel mask underneath your deck chair, fix your oxygen mask first while on your hammock and make sure all electronic items are switched to flight mode before stretching out on the beach.
