SBS signs major sponsors for Eurovision broadcast

SBS Media has signed on two broadcast sponsors for this year’s Eurovision coverage; Renault and HOSTPLUS.

Coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest, an annual song competition held among the member countries of the European Broadcasting Union since 1956, will screen on SBS One from May 9 to 11. According to OzTam rating figures, more than 751,000 Australians watched last year's Eurovision final.

Andrew Cook, director of sales, SBS media, told B&T: “As a result of the major investment in marketing and the number of ways viewers can engage with Eurovision content, SBS has seen a significant increase in revenues across our platforms for this year’s broadcast.”

As part of their partnership, Renault and SBS will be offering viewers the chance to win a Renault Clio. “It’s great to have Renault and HOSTPLUS as broadcast partners for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest broadcast on SBS. As a media-first for Eurovision, we have teamed up with Renault to provide audiences with the opportunity to nominate their favourite Eurovision style moment on the SBS Eurovision website for their chance to win a car,” said Cook.

SBS’ coverage will be hosted by Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang in Denmark and the network is hoping for a ratings bump on account of Australian singer Jessica Mauboy performing at the competition. Mauboy will feature during semi-final two on Saturday May 10 and will be the first guest singer from a non-European Union country to perform at the event.
