Rudd puts out straight-talking debt TVC

Kevin Rudd’s latest electioneering ad aims to set the record straight on the country’s debt situation, in another straight-to-camera piece from the Prime Minister.

The latest 30-second ad from the Labor Party has a direct go at the Coalition’s claims on Australia’s debt position, using a graphic of the “net debt per capita” to make the point Australia’s is one of the lowest in the world.

Political commentators are speculating an election could be called on Sunday for September, which would add weight to the coffers of many media owners as the upsurge in political marketing did in June.

It is the latest in a series of straight-talking TVCs Rudd has put out since retaking the leadership from Julia Gillard, as he seeks to stabilize the upsurge in popularity the party has experienced since then.

The claims put forward by Rudd in the ad will also be subjected to verification from the multitude of fact-checking units which have sprung up around the election.
