My Kitchen Rules hit its highest rating note yet for 2014 last night, as Seven launched new Revenge and an extended news bulletin in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
My Kitchen Rules was watched by 1.841 million people last night, according to OzTam’s preliminary metro ratings.
Revenge returned to Australian TV last night with 1.186 million watching the heavily promoted opening episode.
Last night was the first outing for Seven’s fresh news strategy which has seen Today Tonight axed in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in favour of an hour-long Seven News.
Seven News beat Nine News with 1.251 million choosing to watch the first half of Seven’s bulletin compared to the 1.228 who watched Nine’s.
In total, the new second half of Seven News/Today Tonight outperformed Nine News at 6.30, with 1.209 million viewers compared to 1.163 million.
However, Nine News at 6.30 had more viewers in Sydney (329,000) and Melbourne (410,000) then the second half of Seven News did with 289,000 Sydneysiders choosing to stay tuned to Seven along with 324,000 Melbournians.
Today Tonight pulled in 130,000 viewers in Adelaide and 219,000 in Perth compared to the 96,000 people in Adelaide and 94,000 in Perth who watched Nine News at 6.30.
The Block: Fans v Faves sat in seventh place overall with 1.125 million viewers and came second at 7.30pm behind MKR.
Ten’s The Biggest Loser: Challenge Australia came in fourth at 7.30pm with 499,000 to sit behind 7.30 on ABC1.
Ten’s most watched program was Ten Eyewitness News which won 677,000 and sat in 16th place overall.
The Project just made it into the top 20 with 502,000 viewers.
Seven won the night overall with a total 33.6% share of all free-to-air viewers ahead of Nine’s combined 26.2%.
Ten came fourth with 15.5% behind the ABC’s 20.6%. SBS won a total 4.1%.
