QLD Govt media account “very close”

EXCLUSIVE: The Queensland Government has confirmed that a decision on an agency to lead its master media account is imminent, with B&T understanding that just three agencies remain in the running.

The Queensland Government, which is one of the country’s biggest spending advertisers with a media spend in the region of $70 million, put its media account out to tender late last year, putting incumbent MediaCom Brisbane on alert.

B&T has learnt that Mediacom is still in contention to retain the business, but now faces stiff competition from Mitchells and OMD, with the latter rumoured to be in the driving seat in the race to win the lucrative business.

A spokesperson for the Queensland government told B&T that no agency has been contracted to the account yet, and that the delay in naming one is due to a number of reasons, including legal issues, but conceded that a decision was “very close”.
